Unlike other gemstones which are mined from the earth, pearls are the only natural gem that is organic in nature. Pearls are found inside of the soft tissue of a shelled mollusk such as an oyster, mussel or clam. Each pearl is hand selected and may vary from oval to round in shape and may have small markings which give each pearl a special character.
